A community is the real town or city your profile belongs to: Kailua or Kāneʻohe, for example. It is the unit Localsville organises everything around.
Communities are validated against real U.S. place names, so an invented town cannot be created. Names are towns and cities rather than neighborhoods within them.
Discover shows you your own community, which is why Localsville feels local rather than national. Your community is chosen when you create a profile, and it can be changed later.
You choose your community when you create your profile, and you can change it later by editing the profile. Localsville can suggest one from your location if you let it, or you can pick a town by name instead.
If you move, change the community on your profile so your neighbors are the right ones. Changing it moves where you appear in Discover.
Browsing is separate from belonging: you can look at another community without changing where your own profile lives.

This is deliberate. The people on Localsville are real neighbors, and someone contacting them should be one too.
Only from a private preview link. If Localsville sent you one, you can verify your phone number, claim your profile and submit it for review in your browser. Otherwise, join in the Localsville app.
Verifying on the website creates the same Localsville account as the app: the same phone sign-in, U.S. numbers only, the same Terms, and the same review by a person before anything is published. You can keep editing in the app afterwards.
The private preview page is the one page on localsville.com that loads Firebase sign-in and Google's reCAPTCHA check, and only after you choose to verify. You can delete the account from that page or from Settings in the app.
You can browse Discover, open any public profile, and see what a Person or Place offers (including their photos, their story and their opening information) without signing in.
What you cannot do as a guest is take part: messaging, saving, requesting and creating all ask you to sign in first.
Because it keeps sign-in simple and tied to something harder to churn through than an email address. Verifying a number does not prove who someone is, and Localsville does not claim it does.
