Pricing, fees and commissions

What Localsville charges People, Places and Partners today, and what it does not charge for.

How much does Localsville charge People?

Nothing. Localsville does not charge People anything today. Downloading the app, creating an account, creating your Person profile, adding photos, listing what you offer and messaging your neighbours are all free, and there is no subscription, listing fee or paywall anywhere in the app.

There is also no commission being taken from People right now, because paying through Localsville is switched off — see Does Localsville take a commission? for exactly what that means and what will change when in-app payments are turned on.

The only thing on Localsville that has a price attached at all is Local Partner membership, and that fee is currently waived.

How much does Localsville charge Places?

Nothing. Localsville does not charge Places anything today. A business, community space or community organisation can create a Place profile, publish what it offers, add photos and opening information, and talk to neighbours without paying Localsville a listing fee, a subscription or a monthly charge.

One account can hold up to ten Place profiles, and every one of them is free.

There is no paid tier, no verified badge to buy, and nothing a Place can pay for to appear higher in Discover. See Can I pay to be seen more?

Is Localsville free to join?

Yes. Localsville is free to download and free to join, on both iPhone and Android. There is no paid version of the app, no in-app purchase for features, and no trial that turns into a subscription.

You can also browse Localsville without an account at all. You only need to sign in when you want to take part — message someone, save a profile, or create a profile of your own.

Does Localsville take a commission?

No commission is being taken today, because paying through Localsville is currently switched off. Neighbours arrange payment between themselves, outside the app, and Localsville is not part of that and takes nothing from it.

When in-app payments are switched on, Localsville will earn a service fee on money that moves through the app. Two things about that fee are already fixed in how the system is built: it is deducted from the provider's payout rather than added to what the buyer pays, and Localsville absorbs the card-processing cost out of its own share rather than passing it on.

The exact rate will be published on this page and in the Terms before anyone is charged. We would rather say nothing here than publish a number that turns out to be wrong.

Can I pay to rank higher on Localsville?

No. There is nothing to buy, and paying money cannot move you up. Localsville has no ads, no sponsored placements, no boosts and no featured slots, and the code that orders Discover is explicitly built to refuse paid input.

New profiles do get a little help finding their footing: for the first 60 days after a profile goes live it carries a small ranking allowance so a brand-new neighbour is not invisible. It is automatic, it is free, and it is the same for everyone.

See How does Localsville decide what I see? for what actually determines the order.

Who pays Localsville's fees — the buyer or the provider?

The provider — and only out of what they earn. The design is that a buyer pays the quoted amount plus any delivery fee and nothing else is added on top, and Localsville's share comes out of the provider's payout.

Delivery is the one thing a buyer pays on top of the price of the goods, and that is quoted to them before they agree. See What does delivery cost?

None of this is active yet — in-app payments are switched off.

Does a Local Partner pay anything?

Not right now — Local Partner registration is open and free during launch. The paid path is actively refused by the server while the launch waiver is on, so nobody can be charged for a membership today, even from an older copy of the app.

The standard price that the waiver suspends is $149 per state, per year. It is published in the Local Partner Terms and it is what registration will cost when the waiver ends.

A free registration creates exactly the membership a paid one would: active, one state, a twelve-month term and your own invite code.

Is there a fee to receive my money?

Localsville does not charge a fee to pay you out. When payouts run, money is transferred to your own bank account through Stripe, and there is no per-transfer charge from Localsville.

A payout is only sent once you are owed at least $25. Below that the balance stays yours and rolls into the next run.

Payments are switched off at the moment, so no earnings are being generated to pay out. See When do providers get paid?
